Hughes in Wilson

Celebrate Langston Hughes’ 1949 visit to Wilson, North Carolina with NC State and local researchers
during National Negro History Week! In Wilson, NC, Hughes visited Saint Alphonsus Catholic School,
Darden High School, the Darden House and the Wilson County Negro Library. Profits made from his
performance funded the library's bookmobile! We hope to see you at this commemoration for rural and
African American literacy education.
