Town of Bailey History: Mayors and the People

Main Library Assembly Room

During May’s Wilson County Genealogical Society monthly meeting, James A. Bailey will present an overview of the development of the Town of Bailey beginning with the first mayor, Irvin Nicholson Glover, and explain how the town got its name. Some photographs of early architectural structures and businesses will also be highlighted. Included will be discussion of a failed political movement for Wilson County to annex the Town of Bailey, the railroad’s influence on the economic development of the area, and recollections from some local citizens. All are invited to attend.

Some programs are funded by a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grant awarded to the Wilson County Public Library for the creation of a CrAFT Studio - Creativity, Art, Fabrication, and Technology lab. The CrAFT Studio will combine the Makerspace movement with STEAM subjects through robotics, coding, crafts, electronics, and more.
