The Makerspace is located on the second floor of the Wilson County Public Library in the Adult Services department.   The purpose of the space is to provide patrons with technologies to support educational, professional, and personal goals and endeavors.

Makerspace Hours*

  • Monday - Thursday: 10:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday- Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

*Exceptions to hours will be made for library programming, special events, and workshops by prior arrangements only.

Guidelines

Library customers are welcome to use the Makerspace.  Library customers 13 and older may use the makerspace without adult supervision.  Library customers 12 and under must have a parent or guardian with them at all times.  The space is available on a first come, first serve basis unless reserved for library programming.  The Makerspace is available to reserve for two hours at time.  Customers may stay longer if there is no demand for the equipment after this time.

WCPL Customers may reserve equipment and space up to one week in advance for two hours per day per customer. Reservations can be made in person, over the phone or by email to wcplrefdept@gmail.com.

To use the Makerspace, patrons must check-in at the Adult Services desk. 

Behavior in the Makerspace is to be consistent with the WCPL Customer Conduct Policy.  Internet and equipment usage must be consistent with the WCPL Technology Policy.

For use of Makerspace equipment, it is the customer’s responsibility to be knowledgeable in its use and provide any project specific materials.  Library staff has varying levels of experience with Makerspace equipment and can assist when able.  Manuals for most equipment are available on request.

The Makerspace equipment and room must be left in the same condition in which it was found.  The library cannot accept responsibility for the damage to materials or failed projects.

The library reserves the right to halt, delete, or disallow the creation of items that violate the Wilson County Public Library policy, including but not limited to the creation of weapons, pornography, or illegal items.

Only library computers may be connected to Makerspace equipment such as the sewing machine, 3D printer, and Cricut.

Covered drinks are allowed in the Makerspace. 

Projects using the 3D printer must be reviewed and approved by Library staff prior to use.
