Home Library MenuIntroducing Libby
Meet Libby and E-iNC, our new eBook and eAudio app and collection going live August 27!
What are Libby and E-iNC?
Libby is the name of the mobile app used by Overdrive, the most popular provider of eBooks and eAudio to libraries. The Libby app can be downloaded from your device’s app store. You can also access the collection via the web at https://e-inc.overdrive.com/ .
E-iNC is an Overdrive consortium of many North Carolina libraries who share their resources in order to share a much larger pool of books than any individual library could buy. By joining this consortium, WCPL members will have access to a much larger range of titles and authors.
Why are we switching?
- Increased selection: WCPL is joining Libby as part of the E-iNC multi-library consortium, meaning our members will now have access to a much larger selection of books. At the same time, WCPL can buy extra copies of popular books just for our local readers to speed up your wait times!
- Improved app experience: Libby is the most widely used library eBook and eAudio app, familiar to library users everywhere.
- Improved Kindle support: Libby supports reading library eBooks on Kindle Paperwhites and other Kindle devices.
- Improved accessibility: Libby supports native system text size on most devices, meaning text will zoom when browsing for books as well as reading them.
- All your eBooks and eAudio in one place: You can now access all our adult, teen, and children’s eCollections from the same app. (Does not include the NCLive Hoopla eAudio collection.)
- Car app support: For supported car models, Libby offers an integrated dash app to take your eAudio on the road.
What can I expect during the switchover?
- Access to the E-iNC Libby library will go live August 27th and you can begin using it on that day.
- WCPL’s locally owned titles from Boundless eBooks will be imported to Libby, which may take several weeks. In the meantime, readers can access many other titles on Libby that are owned by the E-iNC consortium.
- Holds may be disrupted during the transfer, meaning you may have to put yourself back on hold for any books you have been waiting for. This could result in ending up further down the holds queue. We apologize, but this is a one-time disruption that should result in better service overall.
What should I do to use Libby?
- Download the Libby app to your mobile device.
- Log in using your library name, library card number, and library PIN. Don’t know your PIN? Call or come by the library to have it reset.
- You will need to add each library collection you access via Libby individually – so, for instance, if you want access to the full selection of Libby books provided by WCPL, you will need to add the “E-iNC Library” collection for books for all ages and the “NC Kids Digital Library” for additional children’s books. You can do this under "Add a Library" in your account.
- For more information on how to use the Libby app, access text help guides here and help videos here or talk to a library staff member.
