Adult cardholders may request items through the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) System. This service allows patrons to borrow up to three items at a time from another library’s collection when the borrowing library does not own and never intends to own an item. Books, periodical articles, microfilm, and other materials are readily accessible.

Interlibrary Loan request slips are located at the Adult Services desk on the second floor or may be submitted electronically or printed from the library website. (Click ‘Services,’ then ‘Interlibrary Loan.’)

Interlibrary Loan requests may also be phoned in to Adult Services Staff at 252-237-5355 ext. 5028.

General Interlibrary Loan Guidelines:

  • Adult patrons must have a current library card free of all extended use fees and no current overdue books.
  • A $2.00 fee is required for each request. Microfilm and periodical request prices may vary.
  • Items must be at least 6 months older than the publication date with a retail value of $70 or less.
  • Patron must provide title and author information at minimum. Additional publication details are encouraged.
  • E-books, and DVDs may not be requested via ILL. Audiobooks and textbooks are allowed.
  • Each patron may have a maximum of three active ILL requests at a time. This includes items that have been received as well as pending arrivals.
  • Renewal requests must be submitted to Adult Services Staff before the due date. Renewal requests are often denied, and an item’s due date cannot be extended.
  • A $1.00 per day extended use fee is charged for overdue items.
