Voter ID will be required for the 2024 election.

Wilson County voters who do not currently have an acceptable ID can get a free Voter ID from the Board of Elections. 112 Douglas St SE, Wilson, NC 27893 252-399-2836.  Learn more here.

Those who do not bring a photo ID with them on election day can fill out an ID Exception Form and return to the Board of Elections with their ID by the cutoff date to get their vote registered.

Check your North Carolina voter registration status

Even if you've been registered for years, it's a good idea to check your voter registration status to make sure you're ready to go!

You may register to vote in North Carolina if:

• You are a U.S. Citizen
• You have lived in your North Carolina county of residence for at least 30 days prior to the date of the election.
• You will be at least 18 years old by the date of the general election (Tuesday, November 5 for the 2024 election).  If you are 16 or 17, you may pre-register to vote if you will be 18 by the date of the election.
• You are not currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction, including probation, parole, or post-release supervision. (See below for more voting information for those convicted of a crime.)

If you have a North Carolina Driver's License or DMV-issued ID Card, you can register to vote online.

• Go to https://payments.ncdot.gov
• Click "Continue to myNCDMV services"
• Sign in, or click "Continue as a guest" at the bottom
• Click "Submit a Voter Registration Application".

Paper North Carolina voter registration applications may be printed in English or Spanish, or you can pick one up at the library or at the Board of Elections.  Finished applications should be mailed or delivered in-person to the Wilson County Board of Elections at 112 Douglas St E, Wilson, NC 27893.  The deadline for voter registrations to be received (not postmarked) by the Board of Elections in order to vote in the November 2024 election is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.  Those not registered by that date may still be able to vote early at a One-Stop voting location - see below.

If you would like to see a sample ballot before voting in order to know which candidates or issues will be on the ballot, you can view one from your voter information page.  Note that sample ballots may not be available until closer to the election.

 

Find a One-Stop (Early) Voting Site (may not be available until closer to the election date)

Early voting gives the opportunity to vote in-person before election day.  For those who are not registered and are running out of time before election day, one-stop voting locations are the only option for same-day registration and voting. Proof of identity/residence is required for same-day registration. For the 2024 election, photo ID will be required for early voting.  Go here for more information on One-Stop Voting.

 

Same-Day Registration

When you check in to vote at an early voting site, you may update your name or address within the same county if necessary. Individuals who are not registered to vote in a county may register and immediately vote at that same site. This process is called “same-day registration.” Find more information at Register in Person During Early Voting.

 

 

Find your Election Day polling location

Your polling location is your assigned and best place to cast your vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

North Carolina polls are open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.

You will be required to show photo ID in order to vote on Election Day.

If you are unable to vote at your assigned polling location, you may still request a provisional ballot at any polling location in your registered county. Go here for more information about provisional ballots.

You must be a currently registered voter in order to vote on Election Day.  If you missed the deadline for voter registration, your last chance to vote is by utilizing same-day registration during One-Stop (Early) Voting (see above).

If you requested an absentee ballot but have not received it or will be unable to return it by the deadline, you may still vote in person during early voting or on election day.  If you vote in-person, you must not submit your absentee ballot.

 

Voting information for those convicted of a crime

In North Carolina, those currently incarcerated or serving a sentence are still eligible to vote unless they have been convicted of a felony. Those convicted of a felony are not eligible to vote during their sentence, but regain the right to vote once they have been completed their felony sentence or been pardoned.
