The History of Black Wall Street in NC

Main Library Assembly Room

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Durham's Black Wall Street housed a vibrant and successful variety of Black-owned businesses. Learn the origins of Black Wall Street in Durham and other areas of North Carolina. This presentation will be provided by Severlin Muhammad, a local Wilson resident who was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mr. Muhammad received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Howard University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa fraternity.

Some programs are funded by a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grant awarded to the Wilson County Public Library for the creation of a CrAFT Studio - Creativity, Art, Fabrication, and Technology lab. The CrAFT Studio will combine the Makerspace movement with STEAM subjects through robotics, coding, crafts, electronics, and more.
